Dental Crowns in Plano, Texas and McKinney, Texas

A dental crown can help improve the strength and aesthetics of a tooth that is broken, decayed, or discolored by acting as a protective shell over the tooth. Compared to a filling which only covers a small portion of a tooth, a crown (or cap) covers the entire visible portion. Since a crown provides a new outer surface, crowns can restore a tooth to its original shape. Crowns are a terrific option if you want to recover the smile you once had but have problems with a tooth that a filling wouldn’t be able to repair. Dr. Kasiri and our team at Alexander Dental use the most common types of crowns in our Plano and McKinney dentist offices, made up of a mixture of porcelain to provide the look and feel of a natural tooth.

How it’s done

Dr. Kasiri’s team takes between two and three visits in our Plano or McKinney dental offices to complete your crown. At your first visit, Dr. Kasiri will reshape your tooth and take impressions to create your custom dental crown. In order for the crown to fit properly, a portion of your tooth will most likely need to be removed. The impression is sent to a dental laboratory. Before sending you home, your Plano dentist will provide you with a temporary crown to cover and protect your tooth between visits.

When you return to our Plano or McKinney dental office, we’ll have your permanent crown back from the laboratory. Dr. Kasiri will replace the temporary crown with the permanent one and execute a fitting protocol. Once you agree on the color and feel comfortable with your new crown in your mouth, Dr. Kasiri will permanently cement the crown in place.

Dental crowns are durable with a life span of close to 15 years. Like your other teeth, you should care for it by regularly brushing and flossing.
